Miss Foster is our green school co-ordinator however, committee and work consists of staff and pupils from all levels who work hard in promoting environmental awareness and care throughout our school. We have one Green Flag achieved with Miss Mollison as co-ordinator, based on the litter and waste theme. It is focused on reducing litter and waste in our school through carefully managing our three bins for compost, recycling and waste. We recycle and separate all our waste in our classrooms and we recycle spectacles, stamps, batteries, used greeting cards and mobile phones for charity, we also collect these items from the Parish and the wider community.

Our Green Flag

Being involved in Green Schools is very worthwhile. We learn about how to take better care of our world by treating its resources with respect and by not wasting them. It also helps to save our school money. It equips us with information and skills that we can take with us into our homes. We are currently working on getting our second green flag with the theme of energy.

Our school garden was created in conjunction with our environmental awareness. We have many flower beds made by pupils and raised vegetable beds. This year we are getting a poly-tunnel. We sell our plants and vegetables to fund our garden.

We have all been working very hard this year towards our Energy Flag. Our Energy Wardens make sure that lights and whiteboards are off when not in use. We check the temperature in each classroom every day and turn off radiators if it is too hot.

Our Green School slogan is “Move your feet and turn down the heat, turn off the light when it is bright”.

Putting up displays around the school helps to encourage all pupils to work together in achieving our Energy Flag and also increases environmental awareness.

An important part of the Green School programme is to go on excursions in relation to the flag topic. Here are a few pictures from a trip to Clara Bog that 5th and 6th class went on.
